Dyson V15 Detect vs Gen5detect: is the newer model worth more?

Dyson V15 Detect vs Gen5detect on rated runtime, filtration, weight and launch price. Research comparison from Dyson's own pages, not a cleaning test.

The short answer

The Gen5detect adds about 10 minutes of rated runtime (70 against 60, both in the lowest power mode) and sealed whole-machine HEPA filtration, and it weighs 0.8 lb more. Pay for it if you have allergies or a large home. Otherwise, a V15 Detect at a clear discount does the same core job with the same dust sensor and lit head.

When the Gen5detect wins

Allergies, pets and bigger homes. The sealed HEPA system matters if dust escaping the vacuum bothers you, and the extra 10 minutes helps when one charge has to cover the whole house.

When the V15 Detect wins

Price and weight. The V15 has the same dust sensor and lit head, and it is lighter to carry up stairs. At a big discount, it is the better value.
