Bed cooling system electricity cost: 11 models from 4 makers

What a Chilipad, Eight Sleep Pod, BedJet or bFan costs to run per night and per month in every US state, from each maker's stated watts and EIA electricity prices.

Power figures read by hand on each maker's own help or product page on 21 October 2026, prices from the US Energy Information Administration. We have not metered any of these systems. How we research | How links work

The short answer

A water-cooled pad costs at most $10.33 to $24.17 a month to run 8 hours a night at the US average electricity price, from Sleepme's 235 W rating for the Chilipad Dock Pro to Eight Sleep's 550 W for the Pod 6. Air and fan systems cost far less: $1.76 for a BedJet 3 at its 40 W cooling maximum and $1.10 for a bFan at full speed. These are ceilings at each maker's highest stated draw. A real bill can be lower, but no maker here publishes an average.

Your cost to run it

Pick your state and a model, or type the watts from your own unit's label. Lower the share of maximum if you want an estimate below the ceiling; we have no measured figure to put there.

At most $10.33 a month

Sleepme Chilipad Dock Pro at 235 W, 8 hours a night, 30 nights, at 18.31 cents per kWh.

Every model, lowest watts first

"As stated" is copied from the maker. The watts column is the highest cooling draw the maker states; for the water systems that is the maker's single maximum or rated figure, which also covers heating. Monthly cost is 8 hours a night, 30 nights, at the US average. Empty cells mean the maker does not give the figure on the page we read.

The spread is about twentyfold among current models: $1.10 a month for a bFan at full speed against $24.17 for a Pod 6 at its maximum. Eight Sleep's figures rise with each generation, from 300 W for the Pod 2 and Pod 3 to 400 W for the Pod 4 and Pod 5 and 550 W for the Pod 6. Eight Sleep says that maintaining the set temperature through the night takes less energy than the first cooling or heating cycle, but it does not say how much less.

One label to watch: Sleepme's page for the earlier Dock (Chilipad 2.0) says in its text that the "Chilipad Dock Pro consumes approximately 280 W", while its heading and spec table are for the Dock. Sleepme's own Dock Pro page and manual give 235 W, so we list 235 W for the Dock Pro and 280 W for the Dock.

Cost by state for three systems

At most, per month: 8 hours a night, 30 nights, one unit, at EIA's July 2026 residential price. Louisiana is cheapest at 12.72 cents per kWh and Hawaii dearest at 48 cents.

Next step

Before you buy, check whether you need one unit or two for your bed, and whether the system needs a membership for its full features. For most of these systems the purchase and any subscription cost more over a year than the electricity.

Common questions

How much does a cooling mattress pad cost to run per month?

At most about $10.33 a month for a Chilipad Dock Pro (235 W rated), $17.58 for an Eight Sleep Pod 5 (400 W maximum) and $24.17 for a Pod 6 (550 W), for 8 hours a night, 30 nights, at the US average of 18.31 cents per kWh (EIA, July 2026). Those are the makers' maximum draws. Eight Sleep says holding a set temperature takes less than the initial cooling, so a typical bill should be lower.

Which bed cooling system uses the least electricity?

The fans and blowers. Bedfans-USA states 25 W at full speed for the bFan and about 12 W typical, and BedJet states 9 to 40 W in cooling mode for the BedJet 3. At the top of those ranges that is $1.10 and $1.76 a month. They move room air under the sheet instead of chilling water.

Do I need two units for two people?

For Sleepme and BedJet, yes, if both sleepers want their own temperature: the Chilipad Dock Pro manual sets up one Dock Pro per side, and BedJet sells a dual zone system of two units. Double the cost. Eight Sleep says one Pod 6 Hub powers both sides of the bed.

What about heating mode?

Heating can use far more on the air systems. BedJet states 100 to 1,100 W on regular heat and 1,500 W on Turbo for up to 10 minutes for the BedJet 3. The water systems list one maximum figure that covers both heating and cooling.

Method

  1. Models. Bed cooling systems from Sleepme, Eight Sleep, BedJet, Bedfans-USA whose makers publish a power figure on a page we could read, one page at a time, on 21 October 2026. 6 are current models; the rest are earlier models that owners still run, labeled as such. Systems whose makers publish no figure are not included.
  2. Watts. Copied as the maker states them. For the water systems the maker gives one maximum or rated figure, so the cost is a ceiling. For BedJet and the bFan the maker gives a range or a typical figure, which we list next to the maximum.
  3. Cost. watts / 1,000 x hours x nights x price per kWh. Example: 235 W x 8 h x 30 nights = 56.4 kWh; at 18.31 cents that is $10.33. Two units double it.
  4. Prices. EIA average residential price by state for July 2026. Your own bill's rate per kWh is better if you have it.
  5. Not covered. Real average draw through a night, which depends on room temperature and settings and which no maker here publishes. Subscriptions, distilled water and cleaner. We did not meter any unit.
