Countertop ice maker electricity cost: 42 models, 21 with stated watts

What a countertop ice maker costs to run per month and per pound of ice in every US state, from maker-stated watts and daily output for 42 current models from 8 makers.

Watts, amps and daily ice output read by hand on each maker's own product page on 24 October 2026, prices from the US Energy Information Administration. We have not metered any ice maker. How we research | How links work

The short answer

A countertop ice maker costs at most $13.92 to $27.04 a month if it runs 24 hours a day at the US average electricity price, for the 21 of 42 current models whose makers state watts (105 to 204 W). Four hours a day costs about a sixth of that. Per pound of ice, the electricity is 1.1 cents to 3.2 cents, so a 10 lb bag costs 10.7 cents to 32.2 cents to make. The other 21 models give only amps or no power figure at all.

Your cost to run it

Pick your state and a model, or type the watts from your own machine's label. Set the hours it runs each day.

At most $3.76 a month

Euhomy Dart H1 Silver at 170 W, 4 hours a day, at 18.16 cents per kWh.

Every current model, lowest watts first

"As stated" is copied from the maker's page. Monthly cost is 24 hours a day at the stated watts and the US average price, so it is the most the machine can cost. Cost per pound divides one day of that by the maker's stated daily output. Empty cells mean the maker does not give the figure on the page we read; we have not filled them from amps or from other sites.

21 of 42 models have a stated wattage. 7 give only amps, such as the Euhomy Jet SE, Euhomy Pearl L1 Pro, Newair NIM044BSN2 nugget. Amps are a rating for sizing the circuit, and where a maker states both, the amps times 120 V comes out well above the watts (Newair AI-100: 1.9 A and 120 W). So we do not turn amps into a cost. 14 models, including most of Euhomy's nugget and sphere machines, give no power figure at all.

Two makers state energy use over time. Newair gives 80 kWh a month for its 30 lb nugget machine, an average of about 110 W against its stated 145 W, so the compressor rests roughly a quarter of the time on that basis. Euhomy gives 4 kWh per 24 hours for the Dart H1 Silver, which is its 170 W running all day. Newair also says output drops in a warm room: 33 lbs a day at 68°F, 26 lbs at 77°F and 20 lbs at 90°F for that model.

4 maker pages give two different daily outputs for one machine (Euhomy Jet SE, Euhomy Pearl H1, Newair Luma Clear Ice IM200SS, Whynter IDC-221SC); the note column shows both. We list the spec-table figure.

Cost by state for three machines

At most, per month, running 24 hours a day at EIA's August 2026 residential price. Nevada is cheapest at 12.72 cents per kWh and Hawaii dearest at 47.18 cents. For 4 hours a day, divide by 6.

Next step

Before you buy, check the daily output against how much ice you use, and whether the maker states watts at all. If it gives only amps, the label on the back of the machine usually shows the rated input.

Common questions

How much does it cost to run a countertop ice maker?

At most $13.92 to $27.04 a month if it runs around the clock, for the 21 current models whose makers state watts (105 to 204 W), at the US average of 18.16 cents per kWh (EIA, August 2026). The middle model, at 160 W, is $21.21 a month flat out or $3.54 for 4 hours a day. These are ceilings: the compressor does not always draw its full rating.

How much does a bag of ice cost to make at home?

Running at its stated output, the electricity for 10 lbs of ice costs from about 10.7 cents with the Euhomy Tile Plus (110 W, 45 lbs a day) to 32.2 cents with the Silonn SLIM33B (192 W, 26 lbs a day), at the US average price. Water is extra.

Is it OK to leave an ice maker on all day?

It costs the most that way, because the basket is not a freezer: Euhomy's own FAQ says its machines have no heat preservation and suggests moving ice to the refrigerator. Melted ice drains back and is frozen again. Euhomy states 4 kWh per 24 hours for the Dart H1 Silver ($22.09 a month on that basis), and Newair states 80 kWh a month for its 30 lb nugget machine ($14.53).

Do nugget ice makers use more electricity?

Not by the makers' own figures. Stated watts for nugget machines here run from 105 W (Chefman RJ56-D-2) to 170 W, the same band as bullet machines (120 to 204 W). Several nugget makers state only amps, which is a rating for the circuit, not the running draw.

Method

  1. Models. Countertop ice makers sold on each maker's own US site on 24 October 2026, from Euhomy, Newair, Silonn, Whynter, Chefman, GE Profile, hOmeLabs, Igloo (Nostalgia Products), read one page at a time. Built-in, undercounter and plumbed freestanding machines are left out. Frigidaire, Cuisinart and the GE Profile Opal 2.0 pages did not show their figures to our reader and are not in the table yet.
  2. Watts. Copied as the maker states them, labeled "watts", "wattage", "power" or "maximum power consumption". Where a page gives only amps, the watts cell is empty.
  3. Cost. watts / 1,000 x hours x price per kWh, with a month of 730 hours (8,760 / 12). Example: 170 W x 730 h = 124.1 kWh; at 18.16 cents that is $22.54.
  4. Per pound. 24 hours at the stated watts, divided by the stated pounds per day. Example: 110 W x 24 h = 2.64 kWh for 45 lbs, or 1.1 cents a pound at 18.16 cents. Makers rate output in a cool room; a warm kitchen makes less ice for the same electricity.
  5. Not covered. The real average draw, which only two makers publish. Water, cleaner and filters. We did not meter any machine.
