TCL QM6K vs QM7L: is the $150 jump worth it?
QM6K vs QM7L on dated TCL US prices, dimming zones, brightness claims and HDMI bandwidth. Research comparison from maker pages, not a lab test.

The short answer
At 55 inches on TCL’s US store (16 Oct 2026), the QM6K is $549.99 and the QM7L is $699.99 - a $150 gap. Pay up for the QM7L when you want the higher published brightness and zone ceilings and Bang & Olufsen-branded audio options. Stay on the QM6K for everyday streaming and light gaming if that $150 matters more than the paper specs.

This is a research comparison from TCL’s US product pages and dated store prices. We have not lab-tested either set.

When the QM6K wins
Price. For one console or a streaming stick plus a soundbar, two high-bandwidth HDMIs are usually enough, and both series follow a similar 144Hz / 60Hz split on the materials we checked. If you mainly watch TV in a normal living room, the QM6K keeps Mini-LED local dimming without the QM7L premium.
When the QM7L wins
Paper picture and audio stack. The published brightness and zone ceilings are higher, the colour system marketing is newer, and Bang & Olufsen branding plus FlexConnect matter if you plan to expand TV speakers later. The jump is easier to justify at 55 inches ($150) than at 65 inches ($350 on the same dated check).
What would change the answer
- If the QM7L 55-inch lands within about $50 of the QM6K in a sale, take the newer series.
- If you need four full-bandwidth 4K/144Hz inputs, neither of these pages is the safe pick - move up the TCL ladder and read the QSG for the exact size.
- Size first: TV size calculator, then budget TV quiz. Cross-check the Hisense angle in QM6K vs Hisense U7SG.

FAQ
Does the QM7L have four full-bandwidth HDMI 2.1 ports?
No. TCL’s QM7L product page rates HDMI 1-2 for 4K@144Hz and HDMI 3-4 for 4K@60Hz, with HDMI 4 carrying eARC. That is the same bandwidth split pattern as the QM6K series materials we checked. If you need four full-bandwidth 144Hz inputs, look at TCL’s higher L-series pages (for example QM8L marketing) and confirm the QSG for the exact size.
Is the QM7L brighter than the QM6K?
On paper, yes at the series ceiling: TCL publishes up to about 3,000 peak nits and 2,100+ dimming zones for QM7L (vary by size). QM6K materials emphasise up to LD500 Precise Dimming and “High HDR Brightness” without a single comparable nits figure on the US page we used. Treat nits and zone counts as series maximums, not a guarantee for every size.
Which size has the bigger price gap?
On TCL’s US store prices we recorded on 16 Oct 2026, the 55-inch gap is $150 ($549.99 vs $699.99). The 65-inch gap is larger: $649.99 vs $999.99. Re-check live prices before you decide - both series run frequent store promotions.
