The short answer
Fix the screen position, the mouse and the cables before buying anything big. Buy a new monitor only if the screen is too small for your work, and a USB-C monitor only if your laptop can charge and output video through that port. The current Logitech MX Master 4 ($119.99) is the mouse to shortlist if you want MagSpeed scrolling and haptic feedback.

Short answer: fix the screen position, the mouse and the cables before buying anything big. Buy a new monitor only if the screen is too small for your work, and a USB-C monitor only if your laptop can charge and output video through that port. The current Logitech MX Master 4 ($119.99) is the mouse to shortlist if you want MagSpeed scrolling and haptic feedback.
These are starting points, not a promise that new equipment will raise productivity by a measurable amount.
1. Is your display in the right place?
Try changing the screen position before changing the screen. Check reflections at the time of day you normally work and whether the display can sit comfortably without crowding your keyboard.
If you do need a new monitor, the BenQ RD320UA is one current example: a 31.5-inch 4K IPS panel at 60Hz with an included ergo arm and up to 90W USB-C power delivery. Its size makes desk depth and mounting space important.
Adding a second or third monitor to a standing desk? Our standing desk weight capacity check adds up monitors, arms and computer and compares the total with 6 desks rated 220 to 440 lb.
2. Which mouse fits your hand and work?
The Logitech MX Master 4 is Logitech’s current flagship at $119.99 (Logitech US store, 16 October 2026). It keeps the MagSpeed scroll wheel and 8000 DPI tracking of the 3S and adds customisable haptic feedback. The practical question is still whether its shape suits your hand.
Try it if possible, or buy with a return policy. Check that Logi Options+ supports your operating system for the features you want.
3. Can one cable replace several?
A monitor with USB-C can reduce cable handling, but the port needs to support the functions you expect. BenQ lists video, data and up to 90W power delivery on the RD320UA’s USB-C input. Check your laptop’s display output and charging needs against those specifications.
Do not assume USB-C daisy chaining will create independent extended displays on a Mac. BenQ flags the limitation in its product guidance.
4. How do you clear the working surface?
Route cables away from the area where you move the mouse and place frequently used items within easy reach. A cable clip or reusing a tray may solve this more effectively than a large accessory purchase. Measure before ordering a desk mat so it does not crowd the keyboard.
5. How do you fix the daily charging problem?
List the devices that actually need power at your desk. Then choose cables or a charger around their connectors and requirements. A decorative multi-device dock is useful only if it supports those particular devices.
Make one change at a time. Keep it when it removes the annoyance you identified, and stop when the desk works well.

Before your next big purchase
A desk upgrade is often the first of several purchases. If a TV or a robot vacuum is next on your list, these pages can help.
- Buy now or wait for a sale? weighs the likely saving against the cost of waiting.
- TCL QM6K vs QM7L shows when the step up is worth the extra money.
- Why robot vacuums get stuck covers the most common causes and how to fix them.
- Robot vacuum height lists how tall each model is, so you can check it fits under your furniture.
Method: how we checked this guide
This is a research guide, not a hands-on test. We have not bought or measured these products.
Specifications come from the pages under Sources, almost all of them the makers' own. Where a figure comes from anyone else, the table or text names them. Where we compare two figures we compare like with like, for example rated battery life in the same mode.
Where a maker gives no figure we leave it out rather than estimate it.
Our general rules are in the editorial policy.
